TV SHOW GUEST 03.25.2014 EVERYONE THINKS I AM NORMAL…Jill Lamar is a Nationally Board Certified Acupuncturist, and has been licensed to practice since 1984. She has been in the healing professions for almost 40 years. Beginning as a registered nurse in the 1970’s, she became interested in the psycho-spiritual factors that affect health and disease. She pursued this interest during a two year lay counseling program in Washington, DC, that focused on somatic psychotherapy, and other energy-based healing modalities, including Bioenergetics, Autogenics, and Therapeutic Massage.
Jill first experienced Acupuncture as a patient in 1977. Here, she discovered a healing practice that tends to the underlying causes of disease, and that has treated the Body, the Mind, and the Spirit as an integrated whole throughout its 4,000 year history. She enrolled in the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (now known as the Maryland University for Integrative Health) in Columbia, Maryland, and received her diploma in 1984. She then did advanced training at the College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Leamington Spa, England . After practicing in the Washington, DC area for seven years, she moved to Charlottesville in 1991, where she pioneered the practice of Acupuncture in Virginia, becoming the second Board-Certified Acupuncturist in the Commonwealth.
In her clinical practice, Jill treats people across a wide spectrum of health and disease – those with serious health problems, functional health issues, and chronic illness, as well as those who simply want to maintain their sense of well-being, balance, and health. She enjoys working with people who have underlying auto-immune factors and/or issues of inflammation, and is particularly interested in problems where stress, emotion, and physical symptoms are intertwined.
Jill maintains a strong interest in expanding her understanding of health, illness, and healing at all stages of life, and has accrued over 1,000 hours of continuing education over the course of her professional career. She has taken classes and seminars with eminent teachers of Chinese Medicine, including JR Worsley, Ted Kapchuck, Jeffrey Yuen, and Giovanni Maciocia. In addition to continuing studies in Acupuncture, she has received 100 hours of training with Barbara Brennan, a renowned healer and author of Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field. She has also completed a professional program with Zen Roshi, Joan Halifax on Being with Dying.
Jill’s work is further informed by her ongoing meditation practice, spanning the past twenty years. In 2012 she embarked on the study of another long-established branch of Chinese Medicine, completing a 200 hour course in Medical Qigong, which she has incorporated into her practice of Acupuncture.
