TALK: WHAT SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL? Pamela Moran currently serves as Superintendent for Albemarle County Public Schools. She is a career educator having worked for thirty years in different positions including middle and high school science teacher, central office science coordinator and staff developer, middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, director of instruction and assistant superintendent for instruction. She has worked for twenty years in Albemarle after leaving Orange County Public Schools. She has a life-long professional commitment to ensuring that young people participate in top-notch science learning opportunities so that they will acquire the scientific literacy essential to success in college, the workforce and as citizens in their community.
She graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Furman University and a Master’s and Doctoral degree from the University of Virginia. Professionally, she has a lifelong interest in how change occurs in educational organizations and the role of school leaders in supporting the evolving educational needs of children, staff, and communities. She served as the 2011-2012 President of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and actively participates in the Charlottesville Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Public Education Fund, the University of Virginia-Public Schools’ Educational Partnership, and recently served as president of the Women Educational Leaders of Virginia and as a past president of the Virginia Association of Science Supervisors.
